The individual construction areas
Right at the beginning of the installation, the heart of the plant, the 457-tonne gas turbine, was delivered. The entire assembly work included the mechanical assembly of the turbo set consisting of the high-pressure and low-pressure steam turbine, the gas turbine, the generator system, the condenser, the air inlet (air intake) and the ancillary equipment (tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, ...). In addition, we looked after the cable routing, cable tnsion, measuring and control technology, cable connection, bus duct (generator discharge) and transformer assembly including oil filling.
SGS supports CO2-friendly energies
The CCGT power plant generates slightly more than 600 megawatts of electricity and 400 megawatts of heat. The plant achieves a fuel efficiency of over 85 percent, making it one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly CCGT plants in the world.
The new CCGT power plant has been built at an existing STEAG power plant site in Herne. From the end of 2022, it will replace a hard coal-fired power plant currently operating at the same site.
Trouble-free project flow
At peak times, up to 70 SGS employees were on duty for around 12 months. Our experienced team installed the new plant professionally and on time according to the highest international installation standards. Our remaining team of fitters is currently undertaking the residual work and assisting with the commissioning.
