SGS Services at a glance: precise assembly for sustainable solutions
Holcim Germany has made significant progress in its path toward climate-neutral cement production at Beckum. From July to early September 2023, the existing rotary cooler was replaced with a state-of-the-art pendulum cooler. The #SGSteam was responsible for the mechanical assembly of the new cooler and further installations, including the Beumer conveyor, filters, HEX, and steel structures.
The main assembly took place during a tight 35-day shutdown. During this period, our #SGSteam successfully installed:
- Clinker cooler: Preassembled in five segments weighing 50 tons each
- Crusher
- Beumer conveyor system
- Filters
- HEX
- Steel construction
- Piping
Despite the tight timeline, our experienced team completed the project on schedule. Thanks to meticulous preassembly and well-coordinated workflows, the project was executed smoothly and without incidents.
Sustainable transformation for the future
The Holcim Beckum-Kollenbach plant is setting the stage for climate-neutral cement production. Modernizing the Beckum facility represents a pivotal step in the site’s 112-year history. Replacing the outdated rotary cooler will reduce CO2 emissions by an impressive 37,000 tons annually. This initiative is part of the comprehensive decarbonisation strategy that will prepare Beckum for the conversion to climate-neutral cement production by 2030 (Net-Zero).
SGS is proud to be a trusted partner in this pioneering project, contributing significantly to the journey toward climate neutrality.
