The individual construction areas
Our SGS team assembled the following components for each crusher: apron feeder, crusher module, service module, maintenance tower and discharge conveyor. The total weight of the two crusher plants exceeds 4,400 tonnes, with up to 60 SGS employees on site at peak times.
Challenging, extraordinary and complex
The biggest challenge was at the site of the construction site in an open-pit mine north of the Arctic Circle. On site, our local SGS team had to contend with inhospitable environmental conditions such as temperatures up to - 35°C or poor lighting conditions due to the short hours of the day.
Due to the mine’s expanse, construction site logistics also posed a major challenge. The two crushers were 9 km apart and the journey from the entrance gate to the In Pit Crusher was about 30 minutes. The Surface Crusher was located at the surface of the mine, but the In Pit Crusher was more than 400 m underground. Excellent coordination was part of the day-to-day business.
