Three special references
SGS Industrial Services presents three reference projects from the wood-based materials industry here. For the Egger factory in Barony, UK, SGS Industrial Services is implementing a counter-logistics system and installing a Wemhöner short-cycle system. The output of the chipboard plant was increased for the Egger factory in Brilon/DE. For the extension and modernizing the plant in Vasarosnameny/HU, Swiss Krono also relies on SGS quality.

SGS Industrial Services offers industrial assembly and project services worldwide. The international construction site projects of both manufacturers and machinery and plant operators benefit greatly from SGS Industrial Services, and its competent and reliable mechanical assembly and electrical installation services. The extensive SGS Industrial Services reference list ranges from sawmills to drying plants for chipboard production to wood fiber insulation board factories.
A sophisticated routine project
Project start at Egger's Barony plant was in April and is scheduled to be completed in September. SGS has 20 men on site and is responsible for the mechanical assembly. Such a system has already been installed by SGS many times, which is why the company can especially score well here with its experience. A special feature is the way construction sites are organized in Scotland. Due to country-specific security requirements, the administrative effort is correspondingly extensive.
Ahead of Schedule
In order to achieve an increase in performance at the chipboard plant in the Egger Brilon plant, SGS replaced the forming station and renewed the final production. 45 SGS employees were working there until March. The preparatory work began in September 2023. At the beginning of the year there was a five-week plant shutdown for the renovation work. The challenge of this reconstruction was tight space conditions, but with good cooperation with the Egger team in planning and preparation, SGS and Egger managed to reduce the planned mechanical completion from five to four weeks. As with all projects, occupational safety was the top priority in this case. The successful collaboration between the project partners enabled a smooth and safe process for everyone involved.
Renewed order
In Vasarosnameny, Swiss Krono will expand and modernize its factory within ten months. SGS was already part of the project team in 2015, when the Hungarian Swiss Krono factory was built. Now Swiss Krono is once again relying on SGS expertise. “We are very pleased that, following the original order in 2015, we are now also involved in the expansion and modernization. This shows once again that people are satisfied with our performance and our cooperation. We are looking forward to implementing this project together again,” says Christian Gittmaier, Managing Director SGS Industrial Services. Up to 50 employees will work in Vasarosnameny. The tasks include the mechanical assembly of a drum dryer, a wet chip bunker, the energy system, the screening as well as the machines for wood processing and the press expansion. A short construction period is planned for this project. Starting in April, the outdoor area will be prepared for enclosing in the fall. The new system will be integrated during a six-week shutdown. At the same time, an expansion of the forming station and the extension of the continuous OSB press. The lintel combustion chamber from 2015 will also be dismantled and reassembled during the same period. After a standstill in the fall, the first panel is scheduled to be produced at the end of November. The SGS team will overcome this time challenge with a lot of work taking place at the same time.
